Overview Procedure:

This car was built on the same principles as the previous all except horizontal thrust. We took a Erector set car, and after taking out the electric motor and other related equipment, dropped into it the rear end out one of the previous rockets. It was then held in place by rubber bands.

Materials:

Erector set, rocket rear end/motor mount, rubber bands, C engines, igniters, retaining caps.

Description Specs:

Thrust: 1 C engine (primary)

Weight: 1.75 lb.

Height: 3.6 in.

Launch Procedure:

A cardboard box was taken apart and laid out as a platform overlooking the previous attempt's test site. The car was then set on the platform and launched.

Run 2: The car was launched with its intended C engine. The car took off straight, then began to flip end over end until it careened into the ground. Run 2, Run 2-2 (second shot) Also after the car landed the engine was missing from the wreckage, after a brief search it was found fifteen feet away on the ground. It seemed as though when the ejection charge ignited it was shot out of the car.

Conclusion:

We deemed this attempt a success being that even though the car did not have a straight flight, it did cover a much greater distance than the previous trial.

Distance of flight: 26 ft.
